Court documents reveal Tana’Sa Chambers faces charges related to a fatal car fire, allegedly part of a suicide plan with the victim.
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Recently released court documents reveal new information about the deadly car fire turned homicide investigation on Loop 101.
On April 21, DPS troopers responded to reports of a car fire on the southbound Loop 101 near 75th Avenue. When troopers arrived on scene, they located a woman near the burning car and a body in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound.
The woman was identified as 23-year-old Tana’Sa Chambers. She was determined to be the driver of the car and a suspect in the shooting.
When Chambers was speaking with hospital staff, docs say she allegedly said “I did it,” and allegedly stated the victim instructed her to light him on fire and shoot him.
After being looked at by hospital staff, Chambers was taken into custody and booked, facing several charges.
Recently released court documents from her initial appearance provide further details about the incident.
According to court docs, Chambers admitted that she and the victim planned to die by suicide with a gun. She and the victim were driving on the Loop 101 when Chambers reportedly shot the victim in the car while driving.
Chambers then pulled over, and the docs state that she lit the car on fire from the inside and then tried to turn the gun on herself, but the gun jammed. She then left the vehicle due to the smoke and flames.
Police found the gun between the driver’s seat and the passenger seat. Authorities said a gunshot wound was found on the head of the burned body. The victim was later identified by a driver’s license found in the victim’s wallet.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
