In a press release from the Davis Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, they state that a 14-year-old girl was killed at the Blackwater Falls State Park Sled Run.
The incident happened on Sunday, Feb. 16. The time was around 2:30 p.m.
State Police reported that a tree branch fell from a standing tree near the conveyer belt area. It was near the top of the sled run.
As a result of the branch falling, the 14-year-old girl in question suffered a head injury, and lifesaving measures were taken on scene by emergency medical personnel, fire personnel, as well as family members, according to State Police. Eventually, the girl died on scene.
West Virginia State Police said that the 14-year-old was from Virginia. She was in the Mountain State visiting with her family.
Law enforcement stated that the investigation is ongoing.
