President-elect Trump during a meeting with GOP senators on Wednesday said he wants to enact 100 executive orders, with many of the orders focused on his plans for immigration.
βHe threw that out β 100 β there could be like 100 EOs, yeah. I believe him.β Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) told The Hill, referring to Trump.
He said βa lot of themβ would be related to the border, adding that he doesnβt think that would be the focus of all of the orders.
Trumpβs immigration adviser Stephen Miller also spoke at the meeting about plans to address the border on day one of Trumpβs administration,Β AxiosΒ reported, and one plan previewed was reinstating Title 42.
The controversial Trump-era policy that allowed for the rapid expulsion of asylum-seekers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic was kept in place by President Biden beforeΒ it expiredΒ in May 2023.
DuringΒ the two-hour meetingΒ at the Capitol on Wednesday night, Trump and Republican senators wrestled over the best strategy for moving forward with the president-electβs top agenda items like border security and tax relief.
Republicans like Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) laid out a case for moving first on a package including border security, energy provisions and defense, while Trump largely resisted and insisted on one bill.
Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) are aligned in thinking there should be one bill to tackle border security, energy provisions, defense and an extension of the expiring 2017 Trump tax cuts.
