Two of the most hotly debated bills of 2026 die as Alabama’s legislative session ends

Two heavily debated bills that had a chance to pass on the last day of the 2026 legislative session died quietly without coming up for votes.

The Alabama Senate adjourned Thursday without debating or taking a vote on HB541, a Republican-backed measure that would have required voters to register a party affiliation in order to vote in party primary.
