A University of Alabama student was killed in a weekend camping accident.
Bama Catholic Campus Ministry said in a Monday night Facebook post that Malachi Crain died Saturday in a camping accident.
Details of the accident were not immediately available
Crain was a senior at UA studying mathematics and computer science.
He was, according to the Facebook post, a beloved member of the Catholic community in Tuscaloosa.
“He was the Vice President of Liturgy for 2024 and was known for his love of altar serving,” the campus organization wrote.
“He led a (Bible) study and was discipling other men in our community for over two years. He will be dearly missed by many.”
On his webpage, Crain wrote that he looked forward to getting his Master’s degree in May 2026.
Crain’s funeral is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa.
