WPL sides UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bengaluru scripted history on Monday as they became the first sides in the women’s league to play out a super over following a tie as both teams managed to score 180 runs in their respective innings.
UPW eventually ended up winning the game as they managed to limit RCB to 4 runs in the super over as they defended their score of 8 runs.
UP Warriorz won the toss and skipper Deepti Sharma opted to field first as RCB put up a mammoth total riding on Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 90-run knock in just 56 deliveries. The Aussie all-rounder was supported well by Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who chipped in with 57 runs off 41 deliveries. Chinelle Henry, Deepti, and Tahlia McGrath all picked up a wicket each for the UPW with the ball.

Ecclestone was the run-getter-in-chief on the day for the Wariorz as her quickfire 33 runs off 18 deliveries helped her side take the game to super over, while also supported by Shweta Sherawat who added 31 runs and Deepti chipped in with 25 with the willow. Kiran Navgire added 24 runs to the cause as the Warriorz dug deep to push the game to super over.
Batting first in the super over, UP made 8 runs for the loss of a wicket as Henry fell to Kim Garth after adding 4 runs, while Grace Harris and Ecclestone remained unbeaten at 1 run each.
Ecclestone returned to haunt RCB with the ball as she limited Richa and Smriti Mandhana to 2 runs each off three deliveries apiece to seal a 4-run win.
