In a hilarious and wholesome scene, Virat Kohli rushed to touch Axar Patel‘s feet after the star all-rounder took Kane Williamson’s wicket during India’s 2025 Champions Trophy clash against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. A video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.
Williamson top-scored with a fighting 120-ball 81 in the second innings in the chase of 250 runs but New Zealand fell short by 44 runs. As wickets were falling from the other end, it piled extra pressure on the former Kiwi captain and Axar got him out on the final ball of his spell, in the 41st over of the innings.
It was an arm ball on middle and off to which Williamson came skipping down the ground to hit it but ended up getting beaten on the inside edge. KL Rahul behind the wickets took it well and broke the stumps. Williamson didn’t bother to even turn around and kept walking straight to the pavilion.
Right after that, Kohli went straight to Axar and gestured towards touching his feet. To this, Axar sat down and stopped him, making both of them break into laughter sitting at the grass.

Axar ended his spell at 1/32 with an excellent economy rate of 3.20. He contributed brilliantly in the first innings, too, scoring 42 (61) with the bat in a 98-run stand with Shreyas Iyer when the team was at 30/3 and needed it the most.

It’s also not the first time his bond with Kohli has been on the show in this tournament. In the last match when India played Pakistan, Axar was on the other end and facilitated the former India captain to get the strike at the right moments, which allowed him to reach his century while hitting the winning shot.
“At the end, actually main bhi thoda maths kar raha tha unke hundred ke liye (Even I was doing the math for his hundred towards the end). I was hoping that I don’t edge the ball or something. So, it was quite fun,” Axar was quoted as saying in a video posted by ICC after the match.
