Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) urged the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw a Government Order that mandates Group D staff in government-aided colleges be recruited only on a contract basis henceforth.

In a statement, he said this should not have been done when there is a growing demand to convert contract jobs into permanent ones.

Media reports state that the Tamil Nadu government is planning to expand outsourcing — currently in practice only in certain higher education and public sector institutions — to all departments, he said, adding: “If such a decision is implemented, it could lead to the cancellation of 1,50,000 jobs across Tamil Nadu.”

The DMK had promised that all temporary employees with over 10 years of service would be regularised, that 3,50,000 government jobs would be provided, and that 2,00,000 new posts would be created. “Instead of fulfilling these promises, the government is now eliminating existing posts and converting permanent jobs into contractual ones,” he charged.
